About Peter

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been a professional musician (guitarist, teacher, singer and composer) for thirty years, playing in such venues as the National Theatre, Hackney Empire, and the Dominion Theatre, and touring UK and Europe. My band, The Jacket Potatoes, has been featured on TV/Radio and played in pubs/clubs throughout the world.

As a teacher, I have run songwriting courses for Islington Adult Education and have fifteen years specialist experience with "Music Box" in Early Years and Primary Education. I recently completed three years composing, and performing with "Otherworld", an interactive theatre company playing to young people with learning disabilities, their families and carers.

Throughout my career I have maintained a music teaching practice, working one to one, in classes and in workshops.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes and have recently completed the Islington Safeguarding Children Board's Training.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Belfast College of Music and Goldsmith's College, London

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

Performing Rights Society and Musicians' Union.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can work with you to prepare for any upcoming performances.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

You can access online tutoring (and I do use online tools in my practice), but in my experience, the magic of being in a room, working out and discussing any questions with a human being is the best way to learn.
Parents – the teaching of music to children has proven beneficial effects. Performance in core subjects improves and their social and imaginative lives are enhanced.
Adults – playing for fun, acquiring a new skill is great, and if you are becoming more serious about guitar playing I can offer great advice on the business of music.
