About Hector Hao
I have worked as a Problem Based Learning (PBL) tutor at ANU Medical School since the year of 2018. My main tutoring role is leading a small-group study of clinical case discussion that complements the course lectures. I have gained my PhD in the field of Medical Research and I am keen to acquire tutoring/teaching experience. From February to May of 2015, I was demonstrating in the Anatomy practical course for second-year medical students. Before I started my PhD at ANU, I obtained a Master's Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Nanjing University in China in the year of 2013. I did my Bachelor's Degree in Medicine at Southeast University from 2005 to 2010.

I strongly believe that stimulating interest is the best teaching practice. Interest can lead students to actively learn related knowledge. Active learning is based on the practice of reworking knowledge points from the lecture into cases, which can render tutors/students interaction a powerful transformation to the learning environment as Graffam mentioned in his research on active learning (Graffam 2007). Knowledge not processed through the active decision-making of the mind is less likely to be recalled after an extended period of time. The questions I ask will make students find it interesting and thereby put more active effort into learning. It is important for students of medicine to engage in active learning because they will have limited time to recall related knowledge and solve real clinical problems in future. Therefore, at the study stage it is essential for students to efficiently acquire knowledge by active learning and being exposed to the mimic problems.
