About Sarah

Ongoing tutoring GCSE maths and biology
1 month teaching in a school
Tutoring First Year biochemistry students
Mentoring Undergraduate biochemistry students
Coaching netball and athletics for 6-25 year olds

My approach to tutoring is to create an environment whereby the tutee feels comfortable to ask questions no matter how embarrassed they may feel asking. I aim to quickly build a rapport and to keep the classes as fun (but still hugely productive!) as possible so the tutee does not see them as a burden.

I adapt my style of tutoring to suit each tutee (no one-method-fits-all). That being said, I ensure that there are no misconceptions in the basic fundamental concepts of the topic from the beginning. From there, I clarify misunderstandings and explain new areas by keeping it as a discussion so the tutee is constantly thinking for themselves. I believe that this method of teaching not only teaches the facts of the topic, but it has the additional benefit of teaching the tutee how to think for themselves and how to problem solve - vital during exams.

When discussing work I will be constantly asking smaller questions to the tutee so that I guide them to answers, rather than just telling them outright.

Hi, I'm Sarah and I'm currently studying for a PhD in molecular cell biology/ biochemistry at University College London (UCL). The way the human body works has fascinated me since I was a young girl and this is reflected in my passion for research into understanding our body in both the diseased and undiseased states, as well as identifying targets and developing drugs for the treatment of cancers (my current research).

I did my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Masters in Toxicology, both at the University of Birmingham.

Alongside my interest in science, I am a keen sportswoman. I currently do and coach athletics and netball. I have competed internationally for athletics and in national league for netball.

I'm a very easy going and approachable 27 year old, rarely struggle to find something to talk about with people, and am always keen to share my knowledge and experiences with those who wish to learn.
