About Leah
I have a PhD in creative writing and English literature from the University of Houston, where I was an Inprint Mary Gibbs and Jesse H. Jones Fellow. In Houston, I work with Writers In the Schools, a nonprofit that runs creative writing camps and after school writing programs for elementary to high school students. I also worked with Bright Writing Houston to teach the college essay at a private school.

I provide one-on-one feedback on essays, fiction writing, and poetry. In private sessions, I can provide writing prompts for students and help students understand how writing works. I help students integrate a two-tiered revision system, one where students work on the big issues first (organization, argument, audience) before addressing the grammatical issues in their draft. I can also help students improve their writing style through a series of writing exercises and sentence diagrams. For creative writing students, I can help them understand dialogue, plot structure, pacing, and more! I also give feedback on creative writing manuscripts.
