Hi, my name is Aleix and I am a recent PhD graduate in English with a real vocation for, and experience in, tutoring English at primary, secondary and university levels.
My method of teaching is fully adaptable to the needs and goals of each student. I invariably strive, however, to strike the right balance between demanding teaching which pursues the best possible performance from each student and a friendly, inclusive and encouraging style which will make this pursual not only rewarding, but also engaging, fun, and help the student build confidence on the given subject.
One of my great stregths as a tutor is clarity. In general, I give great importance to the communication of contents in a clear, understandable way so as to ensure that the tutee incorporates them fully. I employ examples, summaries, handouts, diagrams, etc. to facilitate the student's engagement and familiarity with the given subject. At the same time, I concentrate on transmitting my studying techniques to the tutee so that they can learn to perform by themselves. Something my tutoring always involves is the development of good, effective organisational skills as well as the improvement of independent studying strategies. The goal is not only that the student succeeds on a specific task or subject, but that they develop the necessary tools to become help themselves succeed in any future challanges.
As a modern and young tutor, I also make extensive use of a variety of media to enhance my teaching. Whilst reading and writing remains at the base of my methods, I often draw on audiovisual materials, like films, video clips or music, to enhance understanding of specific areas of study. I also use importantly real-time editable online documents which prove pre-eminently useful when it comes to proofreading and editing work that is needs to be delivered quickly.
I have an outstanding academic record. I have recently been awarded a doctorate in English from the University of Stirling (2020). Prior to this, I graduated with distinctions from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (BA Hons in English and Spanish, 2014) and the University of Edinburgh (MSc in Literature and Modernity, 2015). I have presented my work in multiple international conferences and published articles in internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals such as *The Journal of the Short Story in English* and *Short Fiction in Theory & Practice.*
I also have ample experience teaching both inside Academia as well as privately and in schools. In recent years, I have taught pre-honours and honours courses in the English departments of both the University of Stirling and the University of Glasgow. In these posts, I have become fully acquainted with and, in fact, contribute to shape the academic standards of coursework for multiple modules. I have marked hundreds of essays, exams, creative work and presentations, as well as designed seminars specifically focused on how to build arguments and academic writing.
Parallel to this, I have been tutoring privately for over five years. In this time, I have helped a wide variety of students achieve their goals, from children struggling with literacy to high-school students preparing for their GSCEs, Highers and Advanced Highers, and university undergraduates completing their final-year dissertations. Recently, in relation to this last post, I helped a tutee with difficulties in English and History of Art attain an A mark on their undergraduate dissertation at the University of Glasgow.

Aleix was a wonderful tutor, who I learned a lot from. He helped me see my potential in English, as both a critical reader and writer, and often blew me away with his clarity of thought which was creative and inspiring, motivating me to work hard to achieve the best I could. Aleix is a great ambassador for his subject and any student is very lucky to have him as a teacher.'
