About Simon
Hello! I’m Simon. I hold a PhD in structural biophysics/biochemistry, plus I have an honours degree in biochemistry and a masters in clinical chemistry. I also have eighteen years of experience working in clinical biochemistry laboratories within the NHS. More recently, I also have considerable experience working in the pharmaceutical industry as a scientist.
I have over ten years' experience working as a self-employed tutor in the sciences and maths. I have a track record of inspiring my students in the subjects I tutor, consistently helping them to much better understand these subjects and achieve or exceed their hopes and expectations. I have numerous happy clients who will testify to this, and I have lots of excellent reviews!

I take a bespoke approach to tutoring, as all my students are different: they range from early secondary school age, through GCSE and A-level, and sometimes beyond, to adult. Some are studying subjects that they are strong in and want to ensure an outstanding result/grade. Others are weaker or struggling, and are looking for someone to explain concepts, which they find difficult to understand and increase their confidence with a view to them passing.
My initial approach is understanding students' requirements and establishing a rapport with them, which I tend to do quite easily. Obviously, different students have different abilities, personalities, strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, I tailor my approach to the requirements of each individual student. Tutorials are carried out in a relaxed atmosphere, where I involve students in the session rather than just talking "at" them, giving friendly encouragement throughout. I also make extensive and effective use of various illustrative materials and exercises, including past and mock exam papers, for those preparing for upcoming exams.
