About Ilia
I recently completed a PhD in Mathematics at the University of Toronto, where I worked on complex problems in dynamical systems and mathematical modeling. Alongside my research, I gained several years of experience teaching and explaining mathematics to students at different levels.
I enjoy helping people make sense of ideas that initially feel confusing. I am patient and clear in my explanations, and I focus on making the learning process structured and manageable. My goal is to create a calm, professional environment where you can ask questions freely and build real confidence in the material.

I focus on helping students actually understand mathematics, not just memorize formulas. My goal is to make concepts clear and intuitive so that you can solve new problems independently rather than rely on pattern recognition.
My teaching is based on three core ideas: building intuition first, breaking problems into simple steps, and practicing with carefully chosen exercises. I adapt quickly to the student’s level, and if something is unclear, I explain it in a different way until it clicks.
A typical lesson depends on your needs, but usually includes a short review of key concepts, guided problem solving together, independent practice with feedback, and discussion of common mistakes and exam strategies. I can also help with assignments, exam preparation, or filling gaps in understanding from previous courses.
What sets me apart is my background as a PhD mathematician combined with more than 5 years of teaching experience. I am comfortable explaining both the intuition behind concepts and the technical details, depending on what you need. I aim to make mathematics feel structured and manageable, even when it initially seems confusing.
My lessons are suitable for high school students, university students (especially Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Probability/Statistics), and anyone who wants a deeper understanding of mathematics.
