About Elliot

I am a PhD researcher in the Humanities and Social Sciences, with a specialization in the cultural history of monsters and marginalized people.

I have completed 3 MA degrees (Russian Literature, Medieval History, and Religious Studies), and have completed the majority of a PhD in Religious and Cultural Studies.

My articles have appeared in scholarly publications ranging from Bloomsbury to the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts.

My research has received national funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and I am the recipient of several provincial and university-level awards.

I currently teach at Concordia University in Montreal, where I teach the university classes The History of Satan; Witchcraft, Magic, and Religion; and Religion and its Monsters. At the University of Waterloo, I taught Russian Culture I and II.

As a teaching assistant, I received a university award for the quality of my teaching and my work with students.

I have also worked with adult literacy organization Literacy Nova Scotia (LNS) . I was hired to create a curriculum to help adults with lower than average literacy improve their skills and prepare them for entry into the healthcare field. This curriculum had the higest success rate of any of LNS's programs, ensuring that over 90% of participants found and retained work in the field they were prepared for. My curriculum is up for a national award.

I am Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic and Popular and American Culture Association (MAPACA).

I tailor my lesson plans to individual student needs. For younger learners or beginners, as an example, an English lesson might involve working through a text together, conversation or writing practice, or a question and answer session.

I believe learning should be an interactive and collaborative experience.

I am student-focused, and my methodology involves finding the right tools to help you excel at learning, particularly for those with learning disabilities.

If you are unsure what level of help would best suit you, I am also able to do an assessment with you to determine how I can best help you achieve your goals!

I have experience teaching:
* University students
* ESL students
* Adults with lower than average literacy
* Children 5-12

At a university level, I am available to tutor in the following advanced subjects:
* English language and literature
* Religious Studies
* Cultural Studies
* History (including European and American history, Russian and Soviet History, Ancient History, Medieval History)
* Medieval Studies
* Latin
*Sociology

I am available to help students with basic language skills and knowledge acquisition, as well as more advanced skills such as thesis construction and university essay writing and study skills.
