About Luke Felix
Hi! My name is Felix, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Musicology in Berlin. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Composition, a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance, and a Master’s degree in Music and Theatre Studies... which is essentially a long-winded way of saying that I have a serious addiction to dusty books and listening to music at volumes that probably aren’t recommended.
When I’m not being brutally bullied by my cat (an essential part of professional musical training), I love teaching! I have experience working with students of all ages and with a wide range of needs. I recently decided to expand my teaching online alongside my in-person lessons because my students are on holiday, and I get bored if I’m not teaching. I also have bills to pay, but that’s secondary. Please note! Lessons will be tailored to each student’s individual needs. The options below are examples based on the kinds of requests my students have had in the past
SUPPORTING MATERIALS: Every lesson will come with digital study materials, such as sheet music or resources to help you learn the basics of music reading and solfège if necessary (all of which are, of course, included in the lesson price).
REPERTOIRE: As I also have a degree in Composition, we can work on pretty much any piece of piano repertoire, as long as it isn’t jazz (which is fantastic, but requires a rather different approach).
THE IDEAL LEARNING PATH: Ideally, piano study should involve a combination of pieces designed to develop finger strength and physical dexterity (primarily études by different composers, depending on the student’s level), pieces aimed at developing technique, and pieces chosen simply because the student enjoys playing them. However, if time is limited and you’re not interested in taking exams or pursuing a similar structured path, we can absolutely focus primarily on the pieces you want to learn.
LANGUAGE: Lessons can be taught either in Italian or English, depending on the student’s individual preference.
