I teach any STEM related subject to GCSE level and Bioscience related subjects to an Undergraduate level. My lessons are bespoke, catered to individuals' requirements, and are run as a discussion, allowing the student to ask questions throughout the session. I have found this to be the most successful tutoring style; the principle advantage of one-to-one lessons lies within catering to the needs of the individual.
I am a recent Biochemistry graduate about to start my PhD at the University of Bath this September. I have taught approximately 25 students and have been tutoring for the past 4 years. I take delight in inspiring my students to really enjoy their subject area, as genuine interest is the best catalyst for learning.

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
2018: Dissertation Research Project, University of Kent
During my third year of study, I undertook an 8 week lab-based project, supervised by Professor Michelle Garrett, entitled ‘Ovarian Cancer and Cisplatin: Mechanisms of Resistance.’ Through the utilisation of classical immunoblotting for a range of targets involved in the DNA damage response pathway in a human ovarian cancer cell line and resistant sublines, some critical regulatory proteins were found to have perturbed expression. This project helped to solidify many practical skills relating to protein biochemistry, such as: Protein estimation assays, cell lysis protocols, electrophoresis and western blotting. Furthermore, working alongside other undergraduates improved my aptitude in communication; explaining protocols ensured a robust understanding of experimental procedures.
2017: Summer Research Project, University of Kent
I worked within Dr. Goult’s lab for 10 weeks over the Summer. I applied for and was awarded a competitive Summer Vacation Scholarship from the Wellcome Trust for this work. The title of my project was ‘Tripartite Interactions Coupling Actin and Microtubules at the Cell Cortex.’ My research entailed characterising novel protein-peptide and protein-protein interactions. During this time, I developed my understanding of protein biochemistry using quintessential techniques within the field.
This experience also gave me the practical skills I will require during my career in research, including: Recombinant protein expression and purification, actin purification from rabbit muscle, circular dichroism spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, fluorescence polarisation binding assays, bioinformatics and cosedimentation assays. Moreover, many of these assays had to be optimised, helping to improve my problem solving skills. Additionally, I was intimately working alongside other senior researchers improving my collaborative and communication skills.
2016-2018: Peer Mentoring, University of Kent
I meet with a group of First Year students for two hours on a weekly basis, to provide additional support in conjunction with lectures, helping their understanding of difficult topics (normally chemistry and mathematics). Finding alternative methods of explanation to cater to the needs of each individual tests my creative and communication abilities.
2017-2018: Student Representative, University of Kent
As the Student Representative, I attend student-staff liaison committee meetings to discuss the direction of the course. Communicating with my cohort’s consensus and the Committee’s rulings has improved my communication and negotiation skills.
