I teach up to Scottish Higher level and tend to be methodical in breaking down the subject into those smaller sections set by the SQA. I prefer a student who knows their weaknesses, because that gives me an idea of where to focus. I like to use analogies and try to explain the course material in a different way than that given by the SQA. I also like to get the student to do many examples (usually trick questions so they get used to the exams) to give them practice.
