Philosophy is like any other activity, it requires practise and consideration to really reach potential...and I do beleive it is an activity rather than just a study. To that end, my teaching not only includes the necessary foundations for Philosophy (Learning a text, writing the essay) but also encourages engagement with Philosophy during everyday life. Philosophy should be learnt through discussion, and not always simply lectured on, and so student participation is key to my sessions. General structure will be a talk by me on the topic that session, taking maybe 25-40% of the session, followed by the rest of the session being all about engagement and talking and discussion, with the student being able to ask exactly the question they desire the answer to instead of having to pull an answer out of a 10 page lecture.
I have decided to begin Tutoring as a way to further not only other's, but my own education and character. Philosophy is a subject that doesn't just teach you what is correct, but also what you yourself think/feel about the world. I have engaged in small amounts of Tutoring in the form of Debate clubs throughout my education, and would love to help someone who is in the position I was at the beggining, feeling unsure about how to apporach Philosophy and how to write concise essays on it. I'm currently in my Final Year of a straight Philosophy course and would love to help others reach this stage, as well as motivate myself to do as much Philosophy as I can.
Graduated from Secondary School with 90% A grades, with a single B in Music. This success was due to my early excelling in Writing and Literature, mostly. I also attained an AS Level certificate in Drama before I left GCSE, I did it a year early and got an A grade. Drama comes in suprisingly handy when talking about and expressing Philosophy! It also means teaching and public speaking are easier for me than some others in the subject.
Sixth Form I earnt 3 A Levels, with an A in Philosophy. Philosophy became my focus during Sixth Form and I began to look more deeply into that topic than any others.
University, I am at now! My undergraduate is averaging a 2:1, which is the equivalent of a B grade in those terms, and I am graduating this year. I'll let you know how that goes!
