I am a passionate musician with over a decades worth of playing experience and 6 years of teaching that gives interesting, detailed and fun lessons.
My teaching style focuses on the students needs and interest and I am happy to teach any level or any age.
I am enthusiastic and encouraging, and challenge my students to by determined in their playing and strive to interest them and inspire them along the way!
I have been giving lessons for 6 years to 15 different students of different ages which has later lead them to achieve high marks in graded exams and even pursue education in music. I have also lead students into performing live for large audiences on numerous occasions.
From the age of seven I have been playing the Guitar which began with Classical lessons in primary school and therefore began with an early understanding of musical notation. This later evolved to Electric Guitar as I became more interested in popular Guitar music which coincided with a few amateur bands that I set up from late primary school onwards. Since then, I have focused on learning Blues music, as well as Classic Rock and Heavy Metal diverting my influences away from Classical to studying different structures and harmony. This allowed me to improvise and create more of my own musical style, also encouraging me to begin singing within bands. It even provoked me to listen to a blend of genres, such as Neo-Classical Guitar, which inspired me to attempt to learn the techniques of such Guitarists as Jason Becker and Paul Gilbert. 6 years ago I became fixated on learning Classical Piano and received a Grade 8 with Distinction and also a Merit in Grade 6 Music Theory in March 2016. I have also recently picked up the Cello and am currently using my knowledge of the Guitar and my ear to learn to play. My end game of becoming the best I can be at my instruments is that I believe when someone has mastered the best technique then their compositions become more unique.
I have always composed music since I began learning instruments and have played many songs and pieces I have written live. During my time in bands, I have played my music in venues like the Cavern Club, 02 arena, The Fleece and The Lousiana located in Bristol, and also have played with singers. I have recorded singles and E.P’s which illustrate the styles I have been influenced by within each band. During my time studying Piano, I wrote 24 Preludes in each key, transferred songs from my bands to solo Piano, and a series of film scores entitled “Wax Museum” inspired by Channel 4’s “Utopia” series and Stanley Kubrick’s film soundtracks. I am currently working on writing an album for Piano and Cello with use of soundscapes. The programme I use to compose and am most competent on is Logic Pro X, and I have a basic grasp of Pro Tools.
I had been teaching instrumental lessons (Guitarist, Piano and Bass) since 2013, however I began formal lessons with an organisation named The Rock Foundry, located in Cheltenham. Here, my teaching ability was taken to a higher level as I was introduced to many different students of all abilities. I even organised group performances and modified my teaching to run singing lessons. I also arranged a performance of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” which I organised for a group recording and performance that can be found on Youtube.
