I aim to inspire a passion and enjoyment for playing the piano so my lessons will always be fun. I use simple methods to help people learn the basics first and once those are mastered students can begin to play modern music and a little classical too. I am friendly, encouraging and incredibly patient and always aim to put every student at ease. Lessons will always revolve around the student's preferred pace and I will adapt to each individual's learning style and needs.
I am a freelance journalist by day but also a musician in my spare time. As a grade eight pianist, who has performed in various concerts, I previously taught keyboard lessons at a summer school for children and have also spent two years teaching at Stafford Music School. I have led classes of up to eight youngsters, aged from seven to 15. I also teach adults on a one-to-one basis, wishing to learn for pleasure. In addition, I have a certificate in education and training so have experience in planning and delivering lessons and adapting my teaching to students' needs.
I am a Wolverhampton-based journalist and musician. As a grade eight pianist, I have previous experience of teaching keyboard skills to a small class of children in a summer school and one-to-one adult lessons.
Background and qualifications
I studied music from a young age, attending regular piano lessons from the age of nine. I achieved distinctions in a number of grades and gained my grade eight with the London College of Music board, with merit. I went on to study music at A level before gaining a degree in English at DeMontfort University, Leicester, in 1998. However, I have always been involved in music, teaching summer school classes at Tipton College in 1996 and one-to-one piano lessons to various adults in my spare time at various times over the last 20 years. I recently completed a City and Guilds certificate in Education and Training at Dudley College, which provided me with knowledge and experience of planning and delivering lessons and being aware of any special educational needs, which may affect teaching style.
Hobbies and interests
Being creative is a passion, which is why I love music, writing and teaching so much. I am an avid reader of books, a fan of films, and I also keep busy by writing a novel and making up songs. I go to the theatre often and enjoy travelling, exploring new places, walking, fashion and photography. As a mum I also enjoy spending time with my daughter!
