About Jaime
I have been playing music almost my entire life. The parts that I was not playing music was unfortunately the times in which my little muscles were not quite developed enough to function independently. I consider this wasted time in my life. I performed in band all through elementary and middle school, played guitar through high school, then joined marching band, played every instrument imaginable along the way during this time. I marched euphonium in high school, was in drumline in college (during which I was going to school for music education), and then joined a traveling band playing various instruments and learning to play on stage briefly before learning the ukulele and becoming a convention performer, doing ukulele steampunk vaudeville. I performed and wrote original pieces like it was air to breathe during this time, and then used that to become a ukulele tutor at a private school. I never stopped playing piano throughout this, and have recorded over 250 piano covers and originals over the last 15 years including 15 increasingly complex covers of Greensleeves, which is a yearly tradition.

Hello! My name is Jaime. I have been playing piano since I was 5. I sat down at a piano bench and taught myself. I never took a day of lessons. I always had access to music, and very early on, I learned that the power of music is transforming the sounds that enter your ears, rattling them around in your brain, and sending them out your fingertips or voice to be something new and fantastic. That is the power I can teach to you. Previously, I taught ukulele and music theory at a private school. A typical lesson with me involves finding what makes you move, and then working towards learning how to make it yourself. They say that playing soccer is 10% technique and 90% instinct. Piano and music is very similar. I structure lessons to slowly introduce you to the theory needed to create the building blocks needed for whatever we are constructing together, and then I step back and let you build on your own. The goal is independence at the keyboard, and I promise that anyone at any level is capable of that ability. All it takes is understanding the theory, and then allowing that to become instinct. Let's hone that instinct together.

Jaime is an attentive and encouraging piano teacher! They are highly knowledgeable and patient, especially when it comes to musical pieces or concepts that I'm tackling for the first time. Jaime knows how to keep things fresh with every lesson!
