  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I developed a love for music from an early age, as I was always surrounded by different styles and genres. Unlike the rest of my family, I wasn’t much of a singer, so my parents decided to take me to music school. At the time, I was choosing between cello and piano. I ultimately chose piano, but the cello has remained one of my favourite instruments to this day.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I don’t limit myself to classical music - I enjoy jazz, rock, and folk as well. But if I had to choose one composer to listen to endlessly, it would probably be either Bach, with his incredible clarity and structure, or Rachmaninov, with his depth of emotion.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

It really depends on the student and the goals we set together. That said, I think working on large-scale projects such as concertos, sonatas, variations, or complete cycles is both difficult and deeply rewarding. These works require the student not only to master the details of each individual section, but also to weave them into one cohesive piece, with its own dramaturgy, pacing, and overall architecture. Helping a student navigate that journey is both a challenge and a privilege.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I believe every instrument is challenging in its own way. Speaking about the piano in particular, one of the greatest challenges is transforming its somewhat percussive, mechanical nature into something singing and lyrical - shaping melodies, flowing lines, and phrases that feel like they breathe. Another difficulty is that pianists rarely get to perform on their own instrument. Instead, we must adapt quickly to whatever instrument is available, which requires flexibility, sensitivity, and a lot of experience.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Consistency, passion for music, a positive mindset, and - of course - lots of focused practice. I also believe curiosity and openness to learning from others are essential for long-term growth.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would choose Rachmaninov, Beethoven, and Schnittke. Each of them had a unique voice and lived through extraordinary times. I would love to hear their stories firsthand, to witness their passion, and to see whether the image I have of them through their music aligns with who they truly were as people.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Once, when I was auditioning for a foundation in Moscow, I was told beforehand that my piece might be too long and that I could be asked to stop in the middle of my performance. So when one of the adjudicators suddenly took a phone call while I was playing, I assumed that was my signal and stopped. The room fell silent, and I quickly realized my mistake - they hadn’t asked me to stop at all! From that day on, I learned an important lesson: no matter what happens around you, stay focused on the music until you’re clearly told otherwise. Distractions will always exist, but the performance deserves your full attention.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I believe it’s the combination of professionalism and personal connection. I adapt my teaching style to each student, making sure lessons are both challenging and enjoyable. I focus not only on technique, but also on helping students discover their own voice and relationship with music. I also bring patience, encouragement, and a genuine passion for seeing students grow. For me, teaching isn’t just about passing on knowledge - it’s about inspiring confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love for music.
