About Alexa
Hi! I'm Alexa, a former Political Science and Law, Justice & Society student at Dalhousie University with a strong interest in politics, law, social sciences, and academic research.
Throughout my university studies, I've developed extensive experience with academic writing, research, critical analysis, and presenting research. I've conducted interdisciplinary research across political science, sociology, law, feminist studies, and democratic participation, and I've presented my research at multiple university conferences.
I know that university-level social science courses can be challenging, especially when you're trying to figure out what a professor is looking for in an essay, how to approach a difficult reading, or how to turn your ideas into a clear academic argument. My goal as a tutor is to make those challenges feel much more manageable.
I'm patient, approachable, and happy to adapt my teaching style to each student's needs. Whether you need help understanding course material, developing an essay, finding and using academic sources, preparing for an exam, or simply becoming more confident in your academic work, I'm here to help.
I'm primarily available to undergraduate students in Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, Law, Justice & Society, and related social science programs.

My approach to tutoring is centered on helping students develop the skills and confidence to succeed independently. Rather than simply giving students answers, I work with them to understand difficult concepts, break down complex readings and assignments, develop strong arguments, and improve their academic writing and research skills.
I tailor each lesson to the student's individual needs. A typical session might begin by identifying what the student is struggling with, followed by a review of key concepts or readings, and then hands-on work applying those ideas to an essay, research assignment, study material, or practice question. For students preparing for exams, I can help develop study strategies, review course material, and practice applying concepts to potential exam questions.
What sets me apart is my interdisciplinary academic background and research experience. I have studied Political Science and Law, Justice & Society at Dalhousie University and have experience conducting interdisciplinary academic research and presenting research at university conferences. My research experience spans political science, sociology, law, feminist studies, and democratic participation.
My lessons are primarily designed for undergraduate students studying Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, Law, Justice & Society, and related social-science disciplines. I also work with students who need support with academic writing, research methods, essay writing, argumentation, presentations, and exam preparation.
Whether you are struggling with a particular course, starting a major research paper, preparing for an exam, or simply want to strengthen your academic skills, my goal is to make difficult material more manageable while helping you become a stronger and more confident student.
