About Stephen
I am a politics and social science graduate with a First-Class Honours degree with Distinction in Politics and International Relations and a First-Class master’s degree in Political Research.
Alongside my academic background, I have several years of professional experience in research, public policy and advice. My work involves analysing complex legislation and evidence, identifying the most important information, and explaining it clearly to different audiences. This has given me a strong understanding of UK and Scottish politics, social policy, public services, research methods and effective written communication.
I am patient, approachable and well organised. I understand that students learn in different ways, so I adapt each lesson to the individual rather than using a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. My aim is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, testing ideas and improving their confidence.
I can help students strengthen their subject knowledge, plan and structure essays, develop convincing arguments, evaluate sources, understand research methods and prepare for exams or assessments. I take academic integrity seriously and focus on helping students develop the skills to produce their own high-quality work.
Whether you are struggling with a particular topic, aiming for a higher grade or simply want to understand politics and social science more deeply, I will provide clear, constructive and reliable support.

My lessons are tailored to the individual student, their level and the work they need help with. I focus on helping students understand political ideas, develop clear arguments, evaluate evidence and communicate their thinking confidently.
Lessons can cover political theory, UK and Scottish politics, international relations, public policy, essay planning, critical reading, revision and exam preparation. Rather than simply giving students answers, I use discussion, guided questions, worked examples and constructive feedback to help them improve their own reasoning and writing.
A typical lesson lasts one hour, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student’s needs. Before each lesson, students can send me the topic, assignment brief or material they would like to work on so that the session is focused and useful.
I hold a First-Class Honours degree with Distinction in Politics and International Relations and a First-Class master’s degree in Political Research. I also have professional experience in policy research, social security, public services and writing complex information in clear, accessible language.
My lessons are suitable for secondary-school pupils, college and university students, adult learners, and anyone seeking a stronger understanding of politics or the social sciences.
