About Anuschka
I am a professional artist, working across drawing, painting and tapestry weaving, as well as an experienced and dedicated tutor, and a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art. When I am not teaching, I am usually in the art studio, or at my part-time job in sustainable fashion. Since graduating from GSA, I have invested in establishing my teaching practice, which sits nicely alongside my creative pursuits - a realistic and achievable balance for many artists. I am a co-founder of The Paper Stage, an artist-run platform celebrating figurative drawing and painting, through classes, workshops and exhibitions, and with an emphasis on grassroots accessibility and community engagement with contemporary art. My art teaching style emphasises creating an environment of understanding and open communication. I value practical discussion and a back and forth between us, and encourage the sharing of works in progress, both online and in person when possible. My aim is to foster confidence and self-reliance in my students, with a view to helping them become successful art practitioners in an international context.

My lessons are aimed at anyone with the curiosity and drive to learn more about drawing, painting and contemporary art practice - whether you are a complete beginner, at the start of your journey, or a more experienced artist, seeking to take their first step into the art world, be it undergraduate study, or beyond. An experienced drawing and painting tutor, I can provide guidance and feedback on practical work, including portfolio reviews, as well as tips on how to improve the range and depth of work, with adequate grounding in critical & art historical context. A typical lesson of this nature, would be 2 hours long, followed by an email summary and/or additional information relating to our exchange. For those interested, I also offer tuition in practical skills, including: - life drawing & painting - landscape drawing - figure & portrait drawing - mixed media drawing - tapestry weaving Practical lessons will be tailored according to the level and requirements of the student, and are usually 2 hours in length, including a combination of practical exercises, examples of other artists' work for context, and a feedback session (this can be done via email in the interest of maximising tuition time). Having recently graduated and already participating in exhibitions across the UK, as well as securing residencies and teaching opportunities around the world, I am also able to provide realistic and practical advice on things like applications for funding, open calls, and self-initiated projects, to budding artists, based on my ongoing experience as a professional artist. Happy to discuss all of the above!

Anuschka always surprises me with her insight into my work and helps me see my work from a different perspective. I have learnt about my drawing & painting style, and she has helped me find the golden thread between the various mediums that I work with. She has helped me develop my observation skills and through her I have become more confident as an artist.
She has the patience of a saint. Most teachers drawn you in their options and suggestions but she lets you be yourself and helps you find the solution within yourself. Her classes were amazing experiences. I was reminded why I love art. Was inspired again. And none the less, her classes are fun. We always have a good laugh.
I have been attending art classes and workshops run by Anuschka for about a year and I wholeheartedly recommend her as a teacher. She is an extremely knowledgeable and skilled artist and a warm, kind, funny teacher who really knows how help students at all levels develop their artistic practice in interesting directions and grow in confidence. I started oil painting again thanks to her classes, my drawing and painting have become much stronger, and I have more fun with my art practice - the perfect outcome, really!

She is always reliable and articulate when it comes to navigating the practical side of things. As a creative, she is an accomplished artist, writer and visionary - she has a thorough knowledge of contemporary art and art history, as well as the professional art world which really helped navigate project submissions.
I’ve also had the pleasure of attending Anuschka’s weaving and life drawing workshops in Edinburgh - She can explain high level concepts with fluency and ease and is fun and super engaging to talk to about finding inspiration, technical questions and much broader art discussions - all while being extremely warm and down to earth. Anuschka is very open about sharing her knowledge, making her classes a collaborative and positive space that I look forward to being a part of.Having worked alongside Anuschka for several years in a teaching and exhibiting context, I can testify she is a fabulous and knowledgeable tutor with a deep passion for both Contemporary Art and the History of Art.
One of Anuschka's standout qualities is her exceptional breadth of knowledge. Anuschka's sessions are not only informative but also immensely enjoyable. Her teaching style is engaging, and she has a remarkable ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner. Her passion for art is contagious, creating an inspiring atmosphere that encourages creativity and exploration.
Anuschka's extensive experience as an artist adds a unique dimension to her teaching. Her proficiency in drawing, painting, printmaking and weaving is evident in the way she effortlessly imparts practical skills and techniques.
