About Emmanuel
I’ve been a part-time private tutor since 2019, which I’ve used to support my university education. I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2022 with a first class degree in PPE, specialising in Economics and Philosophy; I received four awards for my performance in finals. I then completed an MPhil in Philosophy at Cambridge with the support of a full scholarship, where I was involved in teaching undergraduate students, from Logic to Aesthetics. I am currently studying for my PhD in Philosophy at UCL. I believe deeply in the importance of education. I have found the experience of struggling with difficult material and eventually overcoming it profoundly rewarding. Helping students grow in confidence and interest, so that they can do the same, is one of my central motivations in teaching.

My tutoring style is focused on attaining depth of understanding, rather than learning tips or tricks to improve speed. There are many advantages to this approach: it allows students to apply their knowledge flexibly; to recognise connections to other areas; it improves recall; and it helps students see the point of what they are learning, rather than its being an arbitrary memorisation exercise. I try to support the student in working at the edge of their abilities - where they can get to the answers, but have to push themselves to do so. By ensuring they feel supported to stretch themselves, a virtuous cycle can be generated where students connect focused work with a sense of achievement. This improves their confidence when seeing material they are unfamiliar with. I have been tutoring Maths since 2019, which I've used to support my academic progress. I am a trained Post-Graduate Teaching Assistant, and have experience teaching Logic at the University of Cambridge from my Masters. Outside academic teaching, I have experience training employees in statistics and data analysis.
