Super Tutor

Hermela is one of our best English tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Hermela

Hi, I’m Hermela, a UNSW Engineering student and recent IB graduate. I scored 7/7 in IB English A: Literature and 8.5 overall in IELTS, including a Band 9 in Speaking.

I have 150+ hours previous tutoring experience, where I mostly worked with students in high school struggling to raise their English grades. Because I sat the rigorous IB exams and IELTS exam for university recently, I know exactly what markers actually reward, and I teach you to get there yourself.

I can help with:
● Essay writing: structure, argument, and using evidence well
● Literary analysis and text response
● Oral assessments and presentations
● Feedback on your drafts, with clear next steps

Send me your task or marking criteria and we’ll start from what your teacher is looking for.

About the lesson

FREE 30-minute introductory lesson!

Every lesson is built around your own work. Send me your assessment task, marking criteria, or a recent piece of writing, and we’ll work from that.

A typical session:
1) Quick check-in and review of the last task
2) Focused teaching on one skill (e.g. thesis statements, analysing quotes/excerpts/books, etc)
3) Guided practice with feedback in real time
4) A short task to do before the next lesson

I give annotated, detailed written feedback on essays and timed writing, and run mock speaking practice for orals and IELTS.

● Delivery: Online via Zoom, I use my IPad for shared note taking and demonstration. Typical lessons run between 1-1.5hr
● FREE 30-minute introductory lesson: We’ll look at a piece of your work, talk about your goals, and make a plan. No hidden fees.

Ms. Hermela is professional and very helpful. In grade 8, after moving countries, I was placed in an EAL class, but I was able to move to a standard English class with her help. To improve, of course, you must be dedicated and spend time on your own. However, I recommend her to anyone who needs that push and guidance to stay motivated.

I went from getting consistent 4s in IB English to a 6 in my final exam, and I even got a 7 on my Lang & Lit oral!! The lessons genuinely helped me understand how to structure my answers and feel way more confident, so I’d definitely recommend this tutor.

Working with Ms. Hermela has been an absolute game-changer for my daughter Ariel’s English. She supplements her teaching with bi-weekly homework, helping my child improve even after the lesson ends. Every lesson so far has been engaging, punctual, and well-structured. I recommend her to anyone who is looking for a tutor for their children!
