About Silvia
Started learning sewing at 7 years old from my mum, who worked in couture, and drawing from my grandad, who was an artist; got into bespoke dressmaking class with grown-ups at 11 (I was the youngest student!), starting a professional career in fashion design, graduating in 1992 (Madrid) and 2000 (Manchester). I hold two BA (Hons), one in industrialised fashion design and pattern cutting and another one on Fashion Design with Styling. I have my own fashion company and fashion brand of my own name since the early 90's and I have released numerous collections from vintage styles to streetwear and couture, some for my company and others for other companies. I have also taught fashion design BA (Hons) at Donghua University in Shanghai (PR China) for three years full time, but I missed designing and making so I decided to only teach occasionally now, so I can mainly create, but I have since taught workshops in anything fashion design related, from sewing to dressmaking, pattern cutting and fashion upcycling. I have taught and tutored thousands of students that have successfully accomplished a career in fashion and many who just wanted to learn to make their own clothes. I have a lovely and quirky studio in Manchester's Northern Quarter where I create lovely bespoke clothes and you are welcome to come and learn from me on a one-on-one basis. thanks for reading!

The way I teach is hands-on, as I teach from my studio where you can see works in the making. I am passionate about fabric and sewing patterns and drawing, and I think it's contagious. I can see my students finding inspiration and drive out of pure love for fashion design, and for them it's amazing to be able to learn from a professional, practising designer like me. I am also lots of fun and enjoy meeting new people and that shows! My studio is bang in Manchester city centre, minutes walk away from fabric shops like Abakhan and the lovely shops in the Northern Quarter.
