I believe that the best way to teach is by keeping students engaged and motivated. I teach my students the music they want to learn while teaching them other aspects of music in parallel. I would usually teach a student a song and then teach him the major scale and make him connect the theoretical content to the music.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I developed my passion for the guitar at a young age. My dad plays the guitar and I grew up listening to him play. I did pick up piano first but switched to the guitar at 13 years old and never looked back.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I can listen to a lot of music in a loop! I love all types of music but if I would have to stick to one thing I would say probably Chopin.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

One of the hardest things to teach is how to improvise on an instrument. Improvisation is not only creating music in the moment but also being able to transmit what you are feeling directly with the notes you are playing. I think that this takes a lot of time and patience and is not something that is learned in a lesson but it is actually learned throughout a longer period of time.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I think that the guitar is pretty hard to master! Despite being my main instrument a lot of elements make it really hard like having to coordinate your two hands and the fact that you can play the same note in multiple places.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Perseverance, passion for what you do and consistency.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Most of my idols are long gone but some that are still alive could be Peter Bernstein, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Antonio Rey. The first two are masters of Jazz improvisation and would probably be amazing to hang with and learn from. The last one is for me the greatest flamenco player nowadays and also another person that seems like he is really down to earth and willing to share their knowledge.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I remember that I had a lesson with one of my guitar teachers and we talked about all of the different types of music that there are out there. He told me that music is so vast and deep that we would probably die before even scratching the surface. That was the end of the lesson.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I am very meticulous and pay attention to details. I have a deep passion for my craft and work hard every day to get better. I am never content with how I play and keep looking for different ways to improve and to grow.
