About Jeff
I am a London based guitarist and teacher. I studied music in my native Toronto, where I did my undergraduate degree (B Mus in Performance), and later obtained a graduate level qualification (FRSM in Performance) in London, where I have been based since 1998.
I have over 20 years teaching experience, 12 years of which have also been within schools (both independent and state sectors). In addition to peripatetic school posts, I maintain a private studio teaching pupils of all ages and abilities.
My main teaching are Jazz & Classical/Flamenco genres, and I have extensive experience guiding and preparing pupils for both graded board exams / diploma level qualifications.
Alongside teaching, I am a performing freelance musician working in Jazz and Classical settings in the London area and South East.

I teach all levels of Classical and Jazz guitar tuition.
Jazz tuition is structured initially around acquisition of thorough fingerboard knowledge (scales, triads, chords, etc) first, followed by developing jazz language through a primarily chord tone based approach. This is applied in conjunction with the learning of fundamental standards from the jazz repertory.
Classical tuition is structured around acquisition of a solid right/left hand technique initially, followed by developing technique / repertoire in a progressive graded structure (this does not necessarily mean the need to take exams! - though I do advocate this). In addition, developing sight reading and musicianship skills, through duet playing, takes place during lessons as well.
