About Timothee

I am french but i studied Jazz piano until 2016 in the college of music in Munich (Germany). Obviously during this time, I was playing a lot of jazz with its relatives genres like blues, soul, funk and fusion.

Parallel to my academical courses, I plaid original music and covers with many different bands from rock, reggae and pop and soon i got the opportunity to lead a 7man wedding band performing all over Germany any kind of lounge and party music. Oldies, actual hits songs, I was responsible for the sound and repertoire aesthetic of the band. I arranged medleys, directed the rehearsals, programmed and triggered loops while I was sometimes even playing the bass with my left hand. I also had the chance to be a weekly jazz bar piano player at a Luxury Kempinski 5-stars hotel for 2 years until... well, March 2020 obviously.

As an artist and active musician, I developed also different skills.

I actually learned by myself to play the guitar from 2008 by using my knowledge on the piano.
And since 2017, I am intensively producing music like Lofi hiphop, RnB, NeoSoul, House, EDM, Nudisco.

As a TEACHER, i had pupils since 2012 from all ages and levels from 6 to 65. YES, 65!!! I was hired in 3 music schools and gave group workshops to advanced adults about improvisation, music theory, singer accompaniments, songwriting.

My main responsibility as your piano teacher is to understand your music taste and goals so I can adapt my teaching approach to your needs. But I also want to make you understand what are the possibilities to do with this versatile instrument. To help you develop an intimacy with it and to make it become your inspiring friend.

Learning music is similar to learning a language. It has its own grammar, vocabulary and articulation. My lessons are generally based on following main topics which are all related to each other without being indivisible: Understanding - Imitating - Creating

UNDERSTANDING : Trough learning theory and listening to music, you understand how music works. You know the grammar and structures that help you see what’s happening on your instrument. That allows you to memorise patterns faster, easier and to take creative decisions yourself.

IMITATING : We all learn our first words by imitating our parents. By watching, listening and redoing, you develop your musicality and feeling by making music actively. Learning a language only by reading texts without understanding them doesn’t make sense, you have to start speaking it. Music is the same.

CREATING : Being creative doesn’t only mean composing or improvising. It means being able to adapt any piece is music to your skills by using your knowledge and experience. Taking initiatives to experiment with existing tunes and varying them as much as you wish.

LEARN TO FEEL FREE AND IMPROVISE

When we think about improvisation, we tend to bind it with Jazz music. And that´s legitimate because yes, Jazz´s history and main essence is build on improvisation. But the Truth is that improvisation is much older than the first jazzmen. Even Bach, Chophin and Mozart were great improvisators and they even improvised at their perfomances. Unfortunately, this freedom in classical music almost disapeared nowadays and that´s why very few know and teach about it. Improvisation is not meant to be link to any genres, it is part of making actively music, taking initiatives and creating bond beetween strangers.

It is an incredible feeling to be able to just sit with your instrument and start playing something from your mind. And that is absolutely NOT depending of someone´s talent. Music works exactly like a language. And no matter how early or late we start to speak with words and no matter our affinity with linguistics, as adults we all speak fluently without needing to be a poet or a writer.

Musical improvisation CAN be mastered on a certain level by everyone. With knowledge, practical exercices, patience and an accompanying teacher, your way to freedom will have no obstacles.
