About Karissa
As a professional songwriter, artist, and producer in Los Angeles, I craft songs for GRAMMY-winning artists and collaborators, TV/Film, and even for myself. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a major in Songwriting and a minor in Music Business, specializing in Vocal Performance. Having landed songs with Suki Waterhouse, Ben Kessler, and many others, I am a seasoned songwriter with experience across many different pop, indie & folk-based genres. I was even named a finalist for Write Out Loud in 2023– a musical theatre songwriting competition– and had my work debut at 54 Below.
I've had the honor of teaching summer songwriting programs at both my alma mater, Berklee College of Music, and Interlochen Arts Camp. I have experience teaching both adults and kids/teens! I’m very passionate about getting people inspired to write songs and helping them become confident in their abilities. I’m skilled in guitar, acoustic guitar, voice, piano, and music theory. Due to my songwriting degree, I am capable of explaining high level concepts in fun and easy ways!

Have you ever started a song and didn’t know how to finish it? Or didn’t like how it turned out? I can help! In my lessons you’ll learn how to use repetition, rhyme, structure, melody, and authentic stories to create captivating, catchy songs.
I teach all ages and levels since songwriting is more about practice than skill! Whether you want to geek out on Joni Mitchell lyrics or Dua Lipa melodies, lessons are completely personalized & will focus on what you want to learn. Lessons will typically involve sharing a song you’ve written, talking about strategies to improve your work, analyzing songs you love, and learning new songwriting techniques. If you’re new to writing songs, we’ll work on writing exercises to get your brain thinking creatively, listening assignments to expand your genre knowledge, basic songwriting tips, and short song prompts that will build up to writing full songs!
