About Darby
I have several years of experience working with the refugee population. I approach teaching with patience, care, and a strong focus on building trust and confidence. My background in public health and my current work in health research help me explain ideas clearly and thoughtfully, while being mindful of each student’s unique experiences. I strive to create a supportive, respectful learning environment where students feel comfortable practicing and growing at their own pace.

I’m not a formal educator, but I have experience providing English tutoring in one-on-one and small-group settings. I’ve helped students build confidence in conversational English, reading, and everyday communication they can use in real-life situations. I am also able to provide basic/intermediate Spanish lessons!
My teaching style is patient, flexible, and focused on meeting students where they are. I adapt lessons based on each learner’s goals and comfort level and aim to create a supportive space where practicing and making mistakes feels okay.
I have a Master of Public Health and currently work in health research, which helps me explain complex ideas in a clear, practical way. I’m especially comfortable supporting learners who want approachable, real-world English skills.
