About Katherine
I didn’t always love reading — far from it! It wasn’t until I saw The Hunger Games in the cinema that something clicked. I found a genre I enjoyed, and suddenly reading wasn’t a chore...it was exciting. That passion eventually led me to a career in English. I know not everyone loves books, but stories can help us understand people, build empathy, and even escape reality for a bit. And those skills? They’re useful no matter what you want to do in life. I also grew up on stage, going to theatre school from a young age, so I love teaching drama texts. I'm also a big fan of creative writing; it's one of my favourite things to teach and a great way to help you find your voice and have fun with language!

With six years of experience teaching in a richly diverse school setting (four of those as Curriculum Leader for English) I bring a flexible, student-centred approach to every lesson. I have taught Edexcel GCSE Language and Literature with consistently strong results, and I currently teach CIE IGCSE Language and Literature, as well as A Level Literature. My expertise is further supported by examiner experience in both Literature and IGCSE Language. I design my lessons to suit each student's individual needs, rather than expecting students to conform to a rigid structure. My teaching encourages curiosity and critical thinking over rote memorisation. I also specialise in helping students develop their digital learning skills — equipping them not only for exams, but for the demands of higher education and the modern workplace.
