About Rachel
My name is Rachel and it has been my goal to become a teacher since Grade 1. I love interacting with students of different backgrounds and interests, doing my utmost to shape each lesson in ways that emphasize each student's strengths, helping them overcome any challenges in a calm and understanding manner. Whether you want to enter for exams or learn to play for your grandmother, we will embark on the learning journey together!
I hold a DipABRSM in Flute Performance and an ATCL in Flute Teaching, with just over three years of teaching experience. I have entered students for Trinity exams and Tygerberg eisteddfods, as well as arranged small concerts. I am a Unisa accredited music teacher.

Flute lessons for all ages and stages of learning. Lessons range from 30 minute to 1 hour sessions, including both practical music learning, as well as theory of music (if suitable to student). Lessons are fun, personalized and packed with creativity and enthusiasm. Learn at your own pace, in your own way, making beautiful music all the while. Lessons are taught in English, but Afrikaans speakers who understand English are most welcome!
I have been playing flute for over a decade and hold a diploma in Flute Performance from ABRSM (DipABRSM, with distinction) and a Flute Teaching diploma from Trinity College London (ATCL, with distinction). I am highly passionate about learning and teaching, always striving to find creative ways of introducing different concepts to different minds. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all policy, and stand firm on the idea that the teacher-learner relationship works best as a joint conversation.
I am a Unisa accredited music teacher, and if formal exams are they way you'd like to go, I am familiar with both Trinity and Unisa's syllabus requirements.
Alongside teaching private, one-on-one flute lessons from my home studio, I also teach flute at the local high school. I have been teaching for a little over 3 years now, with students of all ages (beginner recorder for 6-10 year olds) children, teenagers and adults of all ages. If you have breath, you can play the flute!
