About Imogene
I am a qualified maths teacher with QTS and PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education). I've worked with students of all abilities (from school refusers to gifted students) . Every child whatever their starting point, if appropriately supported can achieve beyond their own expectation. Some may need more encouragement and support than others. Fostering self believe in a child and managing their anxieties in mathematics gradually builds self esteem and confidence. Their needs may range from:
1) getting the required support to help manage anxiety and make good progress in their maths journey
2) doing what it takes to pass their exams in mathematics to improve future prospects.
3)Achieving a required grade to meet conditions for further study
4) building stronger core mathematical foundations and improving problem solving skills especially with unfamiliar questions or scenarios (a skill transferable to real life!)
5) Communicating their mathematical knowledge, questions and ideas with increasing confidence, built on past experiences and a willingness to learn and improve
I also have experience of working with pupils with special educational needs as well as students with English as an additional language. This has really enriched my approach to teaching/learning and understanding of the diverse needs and potential of every child I have the honour to tutor. With the right mindset, irrespective of socioeconomic or cultural background, every child can achieve their potential be in maths (or any other subject) irrespective of past or ongoing challenges.
I do also enjoy allowing a safe space for my students to challenge mathematical ideas/concepts (respectfully) and to not be afraid to be wrong! I learn a lot too about my own subject knowledge and so it challenges me to also improve my own understanding..

I believe every child should be encouraged to explore how far they can go to achieve their very best in mathematics. I aim to teach in new and creative ways and strive to make students aware of links between topics in mathematics and discuss real-life examples. This serves to deepen understanding of mathematical concepts and ideas. My degree combined the teaching and learning of mathematics with pedagogy, focused on how children learn maths. Teaching should be done in such a way as to meet the diverse learning needs of learners whatever their ability or disability. Above all, I aim to give engaging and fun lessons but hard work, perseverance and a can-do attitude is greatly encouraged on the part of my students or at the very least give it their best shot whilst have a good understanding of why that attitude is important. I plan my lessons to build on previous knowledge and/or to close any gaps in knowledge. This may happen simultaneously with new teaching or a main focus at the start depending I the child’s needs.
Thus, I like to learn about my learner as a person-that way I know how to engage and motivate them better to give their very best! It will also hopefully pave the way for an effective teaching and learning partnership.
Finally, nobody is born with or without a maths brain. You'll be surprised how much you can achieve if you really want something. Remember, maths is not always about getting the right answer at first but how open you are and resilient in wanting to find it and practice, practice, practice then challenge yourself as soon as you are confident enough to move on to the next level.

Perfect! Excelent!
Perfect! Lessons are going very well. Lessons are organised well and tailored to my daughter's needs. Imogen is very personable and has built a sound rapport with me as well as my daughter.
- The student has got some of the basics mastered and able to apply concepts accurately. We now need to work on others and enable her progress towards a higher grade that I know she is capable of achieving in her final exams.Imogene's response :

Details
For online lessons, a £10 fee will apply for each additional student attending in the same session as a full paying student (ideally from the same family)
Nevertheless, if booking a block of 6 or more lessons then no extra charges apply on the normal hourly rate of £40.
