About Phil
I am a professional musician as well as a maths teacher - I play the drums in shows on the West End. I’ve got loads of experience of work and life outside of maths world too, which I always think helps!
During my PCGE I taught at London Enterprise Academy, and Walthamstow School for girls, and was rated as 'Outstanding'. Since then I have done a lot of supply maths work at Parliament Hill School and La Sainte Union. I have also taught Maths and Further Maths A level at Dr Challoner's Grammar School (before I trained).
I have tutored several students privately in maths (and always loved it!), I have helped underachieving pupils get good passes in GCSE maths, I have successfully tutored a pupil through their Eton maths entrance exam, and I have tutored in A level maths (I love this!).
Whatever your course/age, and whatever your ability level - I’m confident we can transform your maths together!

I aim to make maths really, really clear and also bring some fun and enjoyment into it!
-
Everyone can do maths! The thing is, over the years, we build up misconceptions (things that we think are right, but they are actually slightly wrong). When we start going down the wrong path, then maths can get a bit complicated.
-
Together, we will identify where you’re maths has gone a bit wrong, and then we can work together to do the maths correctly.
-
I love helping students gain confidence. It's so exciting when pupils have that 'Oh right!' moment, when they finally realise something is easier than they thought.
As long as we build up confidence and work together to realise that maths actually isn't as hard as we thought it might be, I am sure that all my students can move forward with maths extremely quickly!
-
I use online resources, resources from my class teaching and I also create bespoke resources and homework (if desired!) for each individual tutee.
-
Most importantly, the maths we do has got to be clear and it’s got to be fun! If one of these is missing, then you will dread maths, and I don’t want that!
-
I’d love to work with you - please get in touch!
