About Catherine
I am a qualified maths teacher currently completing a Master's in education policy. I have a BSc in Mathematics from the University of St Andrews and a PGCE from the University of Oxford. I have been a private tutor since 2014, and my students have achieved great success in that time.

I firstly assess the student for gaps in their knowledge and ask the student which areas they feel are difficult or misunderstood. I then work from the ground up to build students' understanding and knowledge in the areas which they find challenging. A key aspect of my approach is helping students' confidence to grow, as many students experience anxiety in relation to maths and this can inhibit their progress. I create a comfortable and motivated atmosphere in which learning can occur, and students quickly become positively engaged with their studies. I utilise homework (the volume of which can be adjusted weekly dependent upon other events or activities in the student's life) to measure progress and reinforce new concepts.
