About Amanda
I specialise in making Mathematics clear, accessible, and engaging for Key Stage 3 and GCSE students. Alongside my background in Maths tutoring and teaching, I have over 15 years of applying Maths and Statistics in industry. I excel at breaking down abstract, intimidating concepts into simple, logical, step-by-step pieces. Combining analytical rigour with patience and empathy, my goal is to bring Maths to life and help students build confidence, embed Maths knowledge and achieve their target grades.
Background & Teaching Experience:
- BSc (Hons) Mathematical Statistics & Operational Research (Exeter University)
- Qualified Teacher (PGCE): Trained in modern pedagogy, curriculum alignment, and secondary teaching techniques.
- Extensive Tutoring & Teaching Career: Over 5 years of dedicated 1-to-1 maths tuition and further education teaching experience (GCSE & A-Level), helping students of all abilities achieve learning objectives.
- 15+ Years in Data Science & Industry: Former pricing data scientist and software industry lead, bringing real-world relevance to pure Mathematics.
- Higher Education & Corporate Educator: Delivered guest lectures to undergraduate Mathematics students at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and designed bespoke machine learning training programs in the corporate sector (RSA).
- STEM & Community Champion: Led a Code Club at Millais School in Horsham to inspire and empower young women in computing and STEM fields.
My passion lies in demystifying Maths - showing students not just how to solve a problem, but why it works, giving them the tools and mindsets to excel independently.

Every learner is unique, so I tailor every lesson using targeted resources mapped specifically to your child’s goals:
- Foundation Tier: Securing a strong, confident Grade 4/5 pass.
- Higher Tier: Pushing for top Grades 7–9 with advanced problem-solving.
- Exam Board Precision: In-depth familiarity with AQA, Edexcel, and OCR exam formats and mark schemes so there are no surprises on exam day.
I create a warm, supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions, learn from mistakes, and build genuine mastery.
What a Typical 1-Hour Session Looks Like:
1. Warm-up & Homework Review (10 mins): We review the previous week’s concepts and clear up any lingering questions.
2. Core Concept Introduction (15 mins): Clear explanations paired with targeted questioning to check understanding.
3. Guided Practice & Exam Technique (25 mins): Collaborative problem-solving using past-paper questions, gradually shifting to independent working.
4. Session Wrap-Up & Homework Setting (10 mins): A brief recap of key takeaways and setting targeted homework to solidify learning.
Free Initial Parent Consultation & First Lesson:
1. Initial Parent Call: Prior to our first session, we’ll have a brief chat to discuss your child's goals, target grades, logistics, and terms & conditions.
2. Free 60-Minute First Lesson: My first full-hour session is designed to be welcoming, supportive, and completely low-stakes. We will:
- Build rapport, discuss their motivation, and explore what they find challenging about Maths.
- Run a gentle, collaborative baseline check and topic review (including any advance topics requested).
- Wrap up with positive feedback and reflections on what went well.
Your Bespoke Plan:
Following the session, I take time to reflect on our findings to design a personalised tutoring plan tailored specifically to your child’s goals and learning gaps, ready for our second lesson.

Amanda has been a great tutor at a club in my school. My experience with her was one of openness and I remember her being a great role model for my peers and I. She was always happy to help and has a way of explaining things that is easy to understand.
I’ve known Amanda for years as a colleague and friend. When I hired her into my data science team, her technical talent was clear, but what really stood out was her passion for teaching and helping others learn.
Amanda has a great knack for taking complex concepts and making them easy to understand. She is patient, super approachable and builds real confidence in her students.
A great example of this was when she set up an after school girls' coding club at a local secondary school to inspire more young women to pursue STEM. She made the sessions so engaging and practical, inspiring one of the students to go on to study computer games design at university. She also led a data science training program with me and lectured at our local university, showing just how easily she connects with learners at every stage.
Amanda combines leading technical expertise with real empathy and great teaching skills. If you’re looking for a tutor who will make maths feel approachable and exciting, I couldn’t recommend her more highly!Amanda was a kind, caring and amazing tutor, she helped me so much with my coding. I was her student at Code Club where I was taught Python and HTML and being dyslexic I was worried I wouldn’t get it but she worked at my own pace and only moved on when I understood everything and I loved Code Club so much that it had inspired me to study games development at university. I would recommend Amanda to everyone!
I’ve known Amanda for a few years and especially value her integrity, friendship and breadth of knowledge. She is adaptable, easy to work with and very capable, maintaining high standards, with the ability to relate to people of all ages and stages of life. She has recently taken on a voluntary role as our DBS Validator and is providing invaluable leadership and guidance in this critical role which involves keeping sensitive data secure and managing her role in a trustworthy and professional way. I’m sure her students will benefit greatly from her expertise.
I highly recommend Amanda for maths tutoring. She is an excellent maths tutor whom I’ve known for over 20 years, both professionally and socially. She has extensive qualifications, experience and expertise in mathematics, which result in her students achieving their true potential. With a caring and thorough approach, Amanda ensures a truly successful tutoring experience for each individual.
I had the pleasure of working with Amanda, and she quickly became someone I really looked up to. After just one conversation, I knew I wanted her to be my mentor. She is exceptionally knowledgeable, with a strong data science background, and has a real talent for explaining concepts in a clear and accessible way. Despite her expertise, she is incredibly kind, approachable and always willing to share her knowledge and support others. Her guidance has had a huge impact on my learning and career progression, and I would highly recommend Amanda to anyone looking for someone who genuinely invests in others’ development!!
