About Mansoor
I know what it feels like to be a student as much as I know what it takes to teach. I always aim to teach maths from the mindset and perspective of my students. Learning maths is like learning a new art. It requires gentle and patient instruction on the part of the teacher (or sensei as I prefer); and a resilient and willing mindset on the part of the student. Everything else will follow naturally. I have helped students not only to succeed in maths, but also, to think more clearly about their aspirations for the future. I have mentored a number of students studying locally at Oxford University and continue to help youngsters with choosing the best courses and universities for their chosen undergraduate pathways. Many young adults are keen to make a meaningful difference in the world. I strive to help students see how they can work towards meaningful careers.

"EDUCATION IS NOT THE FILLING OF A PAIL, BUT THE LIGHTING OF A FIRE." - W. B. YEATS Students flourish when they understand the deep rhythm of a subject. The more intuitive your relationship with a subject, the greater the chance you will fall in love with it. Helping students to develop subject confidence is no easy task. That's why not every subject expert can be an expert tutor. I adopt a research led approach to teaching; simultaneously developing powerful "conceptual understanding" alongside robust "procedural fluency". Conceptual understanding is knowing more than isolated facts and methods. The successful student understands mathematical ideas, and has the ability to transfer their knowledge into new situations and apply it to new contexts. Procedural fluency is the ability to apply procedures accurately, efficiently, and flexibly; to transfer procedures to different problems; and to recognise when one strategy or procedure is more appropriate to apply than another. I employ a mixture of research-led teaching tools: Diagnostic questioning Student self-explanations Mixed topic problem-solving Variation theory SSDD problems (same surface, different deep-structure) I gained a first class degree in Philosophy from King's College before reading for an MPhil at the University of Warwick. I qualified as a secondary maths teacher along the way and I am currently reading for a second degree in theoretical physics at the University of Nottingham, with a minor in evolutionary biology. It's important for students to have a safe, enjoyable and comfortable learning environment in which to thrive. Hence, I only offer in-person tuition delivered in the comfort of your home at a time that suits. I aim to get to know my students, which subjects they enjoy, their hobbies and aspirations for future study. The biggest gift I aim to give is to help my students obtain a deep respect and value for knowledge.
