Instructor at Laggan Outdoor Activities Centre
09.08.2016 - Currently Employed but not working while at University
I have previously worked in a variety of activities at Laggan, including archery, off-road Segway tours and one of the longest zip wires in Europe. Working as an Outdoor Instructor has improved my confidence and communication skills tremendously. As well as being able to work effectively under pressure and making sure I stay on time.
Personal Trainer through HND Fitness Health and Exercise
2017/18 Academic year
Through my HND, I have completed a 12-week block of personal training with an experienced strength training client.
I have also worked with older clients and athletes for 6-week blocks throughout the course. Working on Strength and Conditioning, Cardiovascular and Muscular Endurance, Power, Mobility through PNF Stretching as well as Fitness and Health Tests and comparisons to normative data.
As I am now attending Abertay University and completing my third year (direct entry) of Strength and Conditioning Coaching, learning about how strength and conditioning training can be implemented into sports programs and improve the performances of athletes, regardless of their sport has become a key interest in my studies.
Work experience at Kirkcudbright Academy and Douglas Euart Physical Education Departments
2014/15-2017 Academic Years
During my 5th and 6th years at Kirkcudbright Academy and my HNC at Dumfries and Galloway College, I shadowed and led physical educational classes involving football, basketball, rugby, tennis, Caleigh dancing, outdoor and indoor hockey. During my HNC, I also spent 12 weeks at the Douglas Euart to understand how different schools carried out their classes. Having 3 years working with young adults and children has vastly improved my communication skills and my ability to motivate a variety of ages to try their best and to adhere to their favourite sports and activities.
Disciplined - For nearly 6years I have been working to and continue to improve my strength and aesthetics through Strength and Conditioning training. Becoming accustomed to a wide variety of exercises and adaptations with free weights, body weight and machines.
Communication Skills - My communication skills with customers/clients has improved incredibly, I effectively explain instructions and provide demonstrations that are easy to follow and understand. I am also very good at listening to what clients have to say, taking their opinions and ideas into consideration before concluding.
Adaptable - Through Laggan I have become accustomed to switching from one activity/job to the next without question. With my clients, if they have had an injury or a preference that affects what exercises they can to do, I am able to adapt the sessions to their requirements effectively.
Hard Worker - I see myself as a perfectionist and will never leave a job half done.
Great Team Player - Through Laggan, I have become a confident and efficient instructor. Able to make my own decisions in situations when they arise and work with my colleagues to keep everything running smoothly.
Motivational - I always encourage people to adhere to their goals and work to become stronger versions of themselves, both physically and mentally.
Excellent Time Management Skills - I always ensure I arrive to work on time and keep sessions/activities running for their allotted time and prevent delays from occurring as much as possible.
