I specialise in building confidence to guide students from Year 3 onwards in English with a strong focus on SATs preparation.
I cover the Maths and English national curriculum and focus on the areas that your child needs extra support with, working towards their SATs tests or 11+ exams to achieve their potential.
My approach is warm and relaxed with an emphasis on confidence-building. I encourage children to let me know what they struggle with, ask questions and to be inquisitive about what they're learning.
Each lesson is tailored to your child’s needs and learning style. Whether your child needs help with maths, literacy, reasoning or exam preparation, I provide the tools and encouragement to help them shine.
My lessons are conducted in a supportive environment where your child can learn and achieve in a safe place where mistakes are learning opportunities. Each child is encouraged to take pride in every achievement, helping them to build strong foundations in reading, writing, comprehension and maths.
I teach practical strategies and encourage steady progress towards classroom success and exam readiness.
I aim to make my lessons both enjoyable and rewarding, with a variety of resources, where a child is able to work at their own pace. When a child is successful at each small step, confidence grows and learning can really begin.
My lessons take place at my home or online through Zoom if preferred. Lessons are usually for one hour, although this can be flexible.

I have known Alison for many many years. She is one of the loveliest, most patient people I know. She is very knowledgable and makes learning fun. I have seen the positive impact she has had on children and would highly recommend her as a tutor.
Alison has tutored Lillie for six years, and throughout that time she has been truly exceptional. Lillie is dyslexic, and Alison has always adapted her teaching with patience, creativity, and genuine understanding. She explains concepts clearly, breaks material down in a way that makes sense to Lillie, and uses strategies that help her learn confidently and independently.
Lillie’s progress has been remarkable. When she started Year 7 at Hertswood Academy she was placed in the lower set, but by Year 10 she had moved into the top sets — a transformation that boosted both her academic performance and her self-belief.
As Lillie got older, she was so comfortable with Alison’s teaching style that she didn’t want to work with any other tutor. Alison kindly agreed to continue supporting her right through to her GCSE mock exams, ensuring consistency, stability, and ongoing progress at a crucial stage in her education.
Alison’s dedication, reliability, and genuine care have made an enormous difference to Lillie’s learning journey. I would highly recommend Alison to anyone seeking a knowledgeable, compassionate, and exceptionally effective tutor.
Alison has been working with both of our kids for 4 years. Her style as a tutor has the perfect balance: clear and structured, with enough warmth to be approachable and responsive. Her collaborative style makes the sessions dynamic which has really helped their engagement with maths as a subject. She breaks down concepts and works through problems patiently and thoroughly. They actually enjoy the sessions! We've seen a positive shift in not only their confidence and attitudes towards maths but also, importantly, their understanding and attainment. We would highly recommend Alison as a maths tutor.
Alison was a fantastic and patient tutor for my daughter in the run-up to her Year 6 SATS. She explained concepts with clarity and helped build my daughter’s confidence. Her approach made learning enjoyable and effective. A very positive experience.
Alison is a fantastic tutor, she is kind and patient also reliable and trustworthy. I would highly recommend.
I wholeheartedly recommend Alison as a teacher. She is an experienced, kind, and approachable educator who has had a profoundly positive impact on my daughter’s learning. Through her supportive teaching style, Alison has helped my daughter gain confidence in her subjects, engage more deeply with the material, and genuinely enjoy the learning process. Her dedication and care make her an exceptional teacher.
Alison is a wonderful tutor.
She explains things so clearly and is always happy to go that extra mile.
Alison has been a fantastic maths tutor for my daughter in the run-up to her Year 6 SATs. She explained concepts clearly, built my daughter’s confidence, and made each weekly lesson engaging and enjoyable. We really noticed the improvement in both her understanding and her test performance. I’d highly recommend Alison to anyone looking for a supportive and effective tutor.
