About Alastair

I’m Al, a former national level swimmer and water polo player with international experience teaching both sports across 15+ years. I’m also a qualified teacher (PGCE) on dry land, which means I bring strong communication, patience, and adaptable teaching methods to every session. Over the years I’ve trained a wide range of swimmers, including complete adult beginners and competitive athletes. I love helping people overcome barriers, refine their technique, and discover what they’re capable of in the water.

About the lesson

I offer focused, friendly coaching designed to help you build confidence, improve technique, and make meaningful progress in the water. Every session is tailored to your level, whether you’re an adult beginner taking your first strokes in water, a triathlete refining efficiency and endurance, or a high-level school competitor aiming to sharpen race skills. My approach is supportive and structured. Clear explanations, purposeful drills, and steady progression so you always know what we’re working on and why. The goal is simple. Help you move better, feel stronger, and above all, enjoy your time in the water.

Our first session will include a relaxed assessment of your current skills, along with a conversation about your goals, timelines, and any specific challenges or areas you’d like to focus on. This helps me tailor your training plan right from the start. Pool Access Listed prices assume that you already have access to a pool. If you don’t have access to a private facility, please note that some public pools require advance notice or approval for external instructors. I can help guide this process if needed. Pool Requirements For competitive swimmers, a 25m (or longer) pool is strongly recommended to allow for full length training and proper race based work. Beginners have more flexibility and can be comfortably coached in a wider range of pool sizes.
