About Jonathan
I have a degree in Biomedical Sciences (BSc) from KCL, a PGCE/NQT qualification (qualified teacher status), and an MA in International Business Management. I have been teaching, public and privately, for ten years. I know the examining boards inside out and exactly how to help you if you are struggling in any sub-strand of Chemistry- be it Organic, Inorganic or Physical. Biology is slightly 'easier' at A level but has much more rote memory- it must be taught and learnt in a different style, and I show students the difference in type of study required between the two Science disciplines (if studying both). I am aware I am on the more expensive end of private Chemistry/Biology A level tuition, however I prefer to have less, and committed, students at a higher charge rather than setting my fees too low and having so many that I cannot personalise the lessons for maximum impact. I also believe you get what you pay for. If after the free introductory lesson/meet and greet, you feel that you do not wish to proceed, then please do not hesitate to let me know- you/your child's education is paramount and I do not take any offence.

I have been teaching Chinese nationals in China for the last 5 years and they have been able to achieve the highest grades (A-A*), even with English as their second language. This is not beyond the reach of anyone that is committed and, basically, follows my instructions, as they have been tried and tested. Prior to this I taught in Enfield and Barnet for 5 years as a qualified Science teacher. Ultimately, the student will be working harder than me. My philosophy is to do as little as possible for my private A level students- obviously supporting when needed- but that they move away from a teacher-led approach to their own strategies for success, which will proliferate into other areas of study and their personal development as they enter adulthood. "The sign of an excellent teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary."- Thomas Carothers This is what will ultimately prepare them for University, be it Kings, UCL, Imperial, and others from the Russell group (which I have successfully helped students apply and get accepted, every year, without fail. I don't only want to secure your Chemistry grades, but also equip you with the critical thinking skills to thrive going forward in life. I normally meet the student for an introductory lesson, with the parents, to discuss what exactly the problems are, what time frame they require results by, what results they need, and general attitude of the student towards their studies. This is usually just a 15min chat, at no charge, so both parties can get a feel for each other. With all due respect, I often reject students who I can tell they are not dedicated to their studies, as my ethics prevent me taking money for what I know will be wasted time, money and energy. That is not to say I will try my best to engage a student who is otherwise disengaged, but I will always advise so that parents and students are fully informed.
