I take a student- Centred Approach to learning, where the children/child being tutored has an active role in the teaching process. Although I would still remain the main figure of authority, in a student-centred teaching approach, the student/students are just as much apart of the teaching process as I am. At the beginning of every session, I would ask what the student/students has been struggling with or what they would want to pay extra attention too. I would do this because I believe the most important thing about tutoring, is making sure that the students feel as though they are making progress and are getting something out of the sessions.
I am a soon to be MA student at Liverpool Hope University and having just recently graduated from my undergraduate studies, I am hoping to both earn a little extra cash and help those who really need it. Although I have not personally tutored before, I am a passionate and hard working individual, who has the patience, the desire and the drive to help people who may need it. Throughout my education history I have always sought out extra help and guidance and therefore am very aware of just how beneficial this can be.

Since January 2017 I have been employed by my university Liverpool Hope as a Student Ambassador. This role has allowed to interact with prospectus students to the university, both by showing them around the university and answering any inquirers that they might have. During my time as SA I have developed my ability to work in a team, as we are all working towards the same goal, gaining more students at the university. I have also had to be adaptable within this role, as I have dealt with both prospectus student and their parents. My adaptability has also been useful because the ages of students vary from the age of 7/8 right up to the ages of 17/18. I therefore am well equipped for working with children.
For three years years I volunteered at my local Brownies on Wednesday evenings where I helped the girls (aged 7-10yrs) with a range of activities. Outside of the weekly meeting I assisted Brown Owl with planning and preparing future activities/events which involves factoring in seasonal activities (e.g. making Christmas Cards, Mother’s Day gifts, Halloween Parties etc).
For five years I participated in a local theatre group (KITES) and have been involved in several productions. Most recently I was in ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ as part of the senior dance troop .In addition, I was responsible for choreographing the dances for the junior dance troop which enabled me to gain leadership skills and develop my creativity. Again this role saw me working with school aged children from the ages of 5-13. Although no direct teaching experience, the experience I do have has made very aware of the hard work and professionalism needed to work with children.
