About Richard

I am an enthusiastic and reliable Mathematics graduate with experience working in schools both in the UK and abroad. I currently work as a Study Zone Teaching Assistant at The East Manchester Academy. Every day I help students in Years 9, 10 and 11 with their Maths GCSE work. I have had six weeks' experience teaching and assisting at Burnage Academy for Boys. I taught up to 8 lessons a week in the Mathematics department and also assisted in other classes across the school. I also have 3 months' experience teaching in a private school in Bangkok, Thailand. This was a full time position teaching 20 lessons a week to students aged between 8 and 15. I taught two subjects: 'Mathematics' and 'Listening and Speaking'. The main responsibilities involved planning lessons, teaching, creating assignments and marking work. I am passionate about Mathematics and improving students' outcomes and I'm keen to pass this knowledge and enthusiasm on. I only knew Richard for a relatively short time between September and November 2017 as his subject mentor on his block A placement before he withdrew from the PGCE course. However, he was progressing well on his block A placement and had taken over two teaching classes – planning, delivery and assessment/feedback. I feel his strengths were
- Thoughtful and calm approach to teaching.
- Subject knowledge.
- Development of questioning.
- Ability to make good connections with and build relationships with pupils.

I have known Richard since he joined the PGCE course in September 2017 at Manchester Metropolitan University. Richard was a committed and conscientious member of my tutor group and had good relationships with his peers.
Richard enjoyed working with children in the classroom and has a love of his subject. However, he decided that the role of a classroom teacher was not for him and that he would enjoy a tutoring role.
Throughout his time at Manchester Metropolitan University, Richard was always professional and his attendance and punctuality were both excellent.
