About Rosalie

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been teaching Alexander technique privately for over 20 years and have also been a tutor at many adult education centres as well as regularly give talks and workshops all over London. I have also taught at the Junior Royal College of music and at the Purcell School. At present I am the Alexander Technique tutor at the Mary Ward Centre in Queens Square London. I am a member of the British Performing Arts Medicine trust.

I have always taught cello and piano privately alongside my career as a professional musician and also taught cello at Westminster School, Queensgate School and St Josephs School in London. I have performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Sydney Opera House orchestra, many contemporary music groups in Sydney and Vienna and as well as giving chamber music and solo performances in Sydney, Vienna, Salzburg, Amsterdam and London when still active as a performer. I performed the 4th piano concerto by Beethoven with orchestra in Wollongong Australia, and still very much enjoy accompanying talented young musicians on the piano.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes,

- Where and with whom did you train?

I have a performance diploma in cello from the Sydney Conservatorium (1986) where I graduated with distinction. I then undertook further studies with master teachers (Professor Tobias Kuhne) in Vienna for 3 years and Amsterdam (Dimitri Ferschtman) for 2 years as well as having master classes with many notable cellists such as Natalia Gutman, Andre Navara, Anner Bylsma and Joan Dickson. I always studied piano alongside cello and I also studied piano in Vienna with an excellent teacher (Christiana Karajev).
I graduated from the Constructive teaching Centre in Alexander Technique in 1994, having had the privilege of being taught by first generation teachers Walter and Dylis Carrington and many other wonderful teachers there.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

STAT (Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique).

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I teach all ages of Alexander Technique pupils, they come for many reasons but often because of poor posture and muscle tension, aches and pains. Stress is another problem that brings many pupils to the benefits of learning Alexander Technique. I often work with musicians, either my own pupils or students and professionals needing help with tension and postural habits that are affecting their playing. Some also come because of performance anxiety. I also work with dancers and actors.
My piano students at the moment are mainly primary school age and my most advanced cello student just gained a distinction with a mark of 144/150 in grade 8 (who I personally accompanied).
