About Charles

I am a professional saxophonist and musician, currently studying a Masters in Classical Saxophone performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where I study with Naomi Sullivan, John Harle, Alastair Penman, Nick Moss, Mick Foster and Iain Ballamy.

I have experience across a wide range of musical settings, from solo performance and chamber music to larger ensembles, including orchestras and big bands. Alongside the saxophone, I also play clarinet and flute, and work as a composer, arranger and producer.

I’ve been teaching for a few years now, though with a break last year due to bereavement. I have been working with students of different ages and abilities. I have prepared students for exams and auditions, assisting one of my students with music auditions at Southampton University. I also really enjoy helping people develop their own musical interests and confidence. For me, lessons aren’t just about learning an instrument, they’re about helping each student become a more independent, curious and expressive musician.

I offer 1-to-1 lessons of 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour, for students of all ages and abilities. From complete beginners through to more advanced players, I am happy to work with students at all levels.

Whether you or your child are just starting out, working towards an exam, has been playing for a while, or are preparing for a conservatoire audition, I can help you make progress in the areas that matter most to you. For me, lessons are about developing your playing while, most importantly, enjoying the music you make.

My goal as a teacher is to give you a strong technical foundation that supports whatever musical direction you want to take. At the same time, I want lessons to reflect your own musical interests and ambitions, whether that's classical music, jazz, improvisation, playing in ensembles, or simply becoming more confident on your instrument.

I am primarily a saxophonist, so I am most comfortable giving lessons for saxophonists, however, I can also give beginner-intermediate lessons on Clarinet and Flute.

- Saxophone (Grade 8+)
- Clarinet (Grade 6-8)
- Flute (Grade 3-5)

My fee is in line with Musicians Union rates for private teaching (about 45 an hour for London)

I am happy to provide a free consultation lesson to figure out where you are in your stage of your playing, wether you are a complete beginner or want extra coaching for exams. I also love listening and finding music, so if you have any that interests you i can help you down your path.

The £5 travel fee is to recoup some of the costs of traveling there and back via public transport. I am currently based in Central London (E1), so i have good transport links, but transport is still costly time and money wise. This can be ignored if doing an online / zoom lesson.
