About Jack
Hi, I'm Jack!
I'm currently in my second year at Durham University, studying English Literature (BA). I achieved 9s and A*s in my GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language exams. Alongside my GCSE and A-Level lessons, I would be very happy to offer assistance to any prospective university students, making the leap from an A-Level to university-standard of writing quality and fluency.
Whilst I'm in Durham for my university work, my favourite pastimes are going to the cinema with friends, and spending time watching shows and playing video games with my housemates. I'm proud to say my home is back in Halifax. As I'm not always back at home, I really treasure spending time with my family and catching up with my high-school friends to see how they're all doing.
One of my dreams is to move to China, for which I've started my Mandarin learning journey, which has given me a newfound appreciation and motivation for teaching English as a (foreign) language.

I believe everybody can be a fantastic literary critic, so I offer my students the technical toolbox they need to unlock their own unique, individual voice. My lessons are structured around each and every student's needs, I make sure all of my lessons are adapted to the texts they are presently studying. My teaching methodology consists of dissecting exam questions and developing a strong and replicable exam technique, unique to every individual's writing style.
No two students are the same and no one writer is the same — neither are my lessons. I work closely with my students to make sure they are gaining as much as they possibly can whilst learning with me. I will equip them with personalised (or my own) A-Level and GCSE memory sheets, which condense all of the key information they need into fun, bitesize aids. Of which, they can then use whenever they are studying English.
I know how important it is to feel comfortable whilst learning, so I make sure my teaching style is fun and light-hearted. I encourage my students to feel they can ask any questions they would like to.
Having taken exams with each board at The North Halifax Grammar School, I am confident in teaching both AQA and OCR English. After tutoring in Physics at my secondary school back home, I have gained a keen passion for helping students achieve their academic goals in the humanities.
A little bit about me: I hope to teach English as a foreign language abroad, perhaps in China, once I have graduated from Durham University. I'm currently proficient in Mandarin, up to HSK level 2 and I'm looking forward to reaching HSK 3 later on this year.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send me a message through!
I look forward to meeting you :)

Me and Jack tutored together at our high school. I know Jack has a huge passion for teaching. He has a way of getting the best work out of anybody, I know he’ll make an amazing, kind tutor. I distinctly remember him going above and beyond for the Year 8 students we taught. Thank you.
Me and Jack have been friends since we met at our uni college, St Aidan’s, in Durham. I can easily recommend Jack as he’s one of the loveliest people I have met so far. I know he will be fantastic tutor, that can easily help his students achieve the best.
