About Willow
I am a second year A-level student who has always had a passion for English and found it to be an area I excel in. I adored English in secondary school and achieved grade 9’s (A*) throughout and my love for English language has continued into my A-level journey. I now study English language at Joseph Wright, Derby College where I continue to achieve A*’s. I tutor because I want to teach students what they can achieve with the power of English and to share my love for the subject with them as well as helping someone to achieve to their higher potential.

To begin I like to dive into my students' strengths and weaknesses in the subject area to gain a better idea of how to cater my lessons in a way that would best benefit my students' time. I then personalise lessons around my students to hit specific target areas, looking at how to meet exam board objectives, going over how to structure answers to meet top band and then doing practice exam questions. I also implement active recall each week to continually reinforce my student's memory and go back over past material. Practice exam questions and active recall have been proved to be one of the most effective ways to retain information and are key in achieving higher grades. And to end each session off I give a student a small, manageable task to complete before our next session to further consolidate their understanding.
