About Derrick
My name is Derrick and I'm a software engineer with over 7 years of experience in JavaScript and over 3 years of experience in TypeScript. I have been working mostly in startups for my whole career and have built many things from blockchains, to COVID lab information systems, to video games. Most recently I have worked on a JavaScript runtime called Bun, where I learned a lot about the internals of JavaScript engines and how they work, and how to write truly performant code without sacrificing readability; these are two of the most important things to consider when creating high-performance systems. Now, I work on a few of my own open-source projects where I hope to share some of my learnings with the community.
