About Dean
My name is Dean Holsten, and I’m a vocal coach with a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and over 3 years of teaching experience. I work primarily with adults who sing for the love of it — in choirs, at karaoke, or just at home. My teaching philosophy centers on joy, mindfulness, and self-expression. I guide my students through breathwork, body awareness, and tone development to create a healthy, sustainable sound. Singing is a deeply physical and emotional experience, and I aim to make it fulfilling, not stressful. I foster a relaxed atmosphere where exploration is encouraged and mistakes are part of the process. My background in Jazz, Folk, Blues, and Contemporary Adult styles helps me adapt to each student’s musical taste. Together, we’ll focus on releasing tension, finding your natural tone, and connecting to the emotion behind each song. I want singing to feel like therapy for the soul. Every lesson celebrates small victories and authentic sound. Wherever you are in life, it’s never too late to sing for joy.

My goal is to help singers discover their natural sound and strengthen it with smart, healthy technique. Every voice is different, so I teach with flexibility and care. Lessons begin with posture, breath support, and gentle resonance work to build vocal freedom. We move toward tone shaping and projection, making sure each sound feels open and natural. I teach how to blend registers smoothly and explore head, chest, and mixed voice safely. For adult beginners, lessons focus on comfort, exploration, and steady progress. For soloists, we work on performance, control, and stylistic depth. I believe in combining technical exercises with real music, so you feel connected to what you sing. My approach includes mindful awareness — understanding how the body supports the voice. Singing becomes more than technique; it’s expression and balance. Lessons are relaxed but structured, encouraging curiosity and confidence. Every session is a step toward ease and artistry. Together, we’ll shape your voice into its strongest, most expressive form.
