About Tom
I have been teaching in a variety of capacities since 2014. I worked in St Francis Xavier's school in Liverpool and in Woodchurch High on the Wirral. I worked throughout 2015/16 at Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College and was responsible there for 85 students, seeing them all at least 4 times a week. I am proud that the 85 students I taught achieved a pass rate at A-Level of 89%.

I am a former Sixth Form Teacher but I have experience in teaching all levels at Secondary School. At GCSE I am most familiar with key topics such as World War One, 1920s USA, Weimar and Nazi Germany, World War Two, and the Cold War. At A-Level I have taught the recently implemented AQA linear syllabus on England 1483-1603 and Germany 1918-1945.
I am flexible in my approach to teaching. Depending on what students are looking for, I can offer a range of services from simple essay advice to full-scale lessons. In terms of lessons, I try wherever possible to make lessons challenging and creative. Using quizzes and minigames to cement knowledge and basic facts, I then use lessons to tackle exam questions, encouraging students to take apart the question and break it down as much as possible. Above all I try to encourage interest and personal engagement with topics, and push students to use their own initiative and complete their own research.
As a tutor, I aim to simply share my knowledge and expertise in any way. To that end, I am an easygoing and friendly tutor who enjoys teaching and inspiring students. I am firm but fair and ask only that students give their full attention and effort.
