About Chris
I have been a software engineer in industry for the past 35+ years. I also enjoy programming as a hobby and have written several games and programs in my free time. Solving problems using computer programs, whether professionally or as a hobby, has always provided me with a great feeling of satisfaction. I have been a youth baseball coach (ages 8-14) for the past 20 years as well as serving on the board of a non-profit youth sports organization. I manage the umpire program for this organization which requires me to find, hire, and schedule teenagers as umpires to fill the assignments for all the games in a season. I have found that my past relationships with young people I have coached greatly facilitate finding teenagers who want to be umpires. This task requires a great deal of organization and diligence, which I bring with me to the tutoring process.

My approach to tutoring is as a partner to the student to help them through the problem solving process. As opposed to just giving the solution to a problem, I foster critical thinking and use of the scientific method to come up with an effective solution. I think this approach is much better for building confidence needed in facing future problems and challenges. My combination of 30+ years as a software engineer along with 20+ years of coaching youth sports make me uniquely qualified to be an effective tutor. My target ages are grades 7-12.
