About John
I have worked in international business for 13 years with clients throughout multiple countries in Latin America. I have a degree from Indiana University and spent 5 weeks living in Costa Rica for immersion training. I have experiencing translating professionally, both for business and publishing. I am a published English writer of poetry, essays, and short fiction as well.

While my methods change according to the student's needs, I believe that a second language must be taught in the same way as we learned our first language; a natural process of learning vocabulary and related verbs for different contexts, so that the student gains tools little by little, and can experiment
in natural contexts. I also teach processes to not be overwhelmed by the explosions of words a student will
be exposed to when trying to communicate with native speakers. Besides that, I see studying language as learning the culture(s) through the language-so that the mindset behind the native speaker is clear.

Details
Rates do not vary regarding the level of the student, but may be subject to change if there are other educational challenges. Travel rates are $5.00 fixed rate within a 10 mile(one way) radius of my home address. Farther than 10 miles (one way) will be billed at $10.00 or $0.35 per mile(round trip) whichever is greater.
