About Kara
As a certified Special Education teacher, I bring both professional training and classroom experience to every tutoring session. I understand that each student has unique strengths and challenges, and I am committed to providing individualized instruction that helps them succeed academically while building confidence in their abilities.
I strive to create a positive, patient, and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes—because that's where meaningful learning happens. Hello! I'm a certified Special Education teacher with a passion for helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals. I specialize in working with elementary and middle school students, providing personalized instruction that meets each child where they are and helps them grow at their own pace.
My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and hands-on. I understand that every student learns differently, so I design lessons based on their individual strengths, learning style, and academic needs.
In math, I use engaging, hands-on activities and manipulatives to help students truly understand mathematical concepts rather than simply memorize procedures. By seeing and interacting with math, students develop stronger problem-solving skills and greater confidence in their abilities.
In reading, I work with students of all ages to improve fluency, comprehension, and overall reading confidence. I use reading logs and informal assessments to identify each student's strengths and areas for growth. Lessons may include repeated reading of short passages to build fluency and prosody, sight word practice to increase automatic word recognition, and comprehension activities that help students visualize, understand, and connect with what they read.
I believe learning should be a positive and rewarding experience. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and celebrating their progress. Whether your child needs extra support, wants to strengthen foundational skills, or is working toward grade-level success, I am committed to helping them reach their full potential.

Details
Travel Policy: In-home tutoring is available. A travel fee will apply for locations more than 20 miles outside of the Fort Worth area. However, I work in the Southlake area during the day, so I do not charge a travel fee for sessions scheduled after work hours in or around Southlake. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your location and scheduling options.
